The 2006 Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance (PRDLA), Pacific Neighborhood Consortium (PNC), and Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative (ECAI) Annual Conference will be held on August 15, 2006 to August 18, 2006 at the Seoul National University Library, Seoul, Korea. Approximately 250 people from around the Pacific and Asia regions will be in attendance for this annual event.
PRDLA
The goal of the Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance (PRDLA) is to facilitate improved user access to scholarly research materials, primarily through digital means. The Alliance will focus limited human and budgetary resources on cooperative ventures both among all members and also within smaller subsets of Alliance members. There are approximately 23 participating university groups in PRDLA, including UH, UC Berkeley, Peking University and Singapore University.
PNC
The Pacific Neighborhood Consortium (PNC) supports enhanced research and education through effective use of new technologies. Improved scholarly communication, information exchange, and collaborative research among the nations of the Pacific Rim creates a shared vision of researchers and educators united not only in space but as part of a virtual scholarly community. PNC was founded at the University of California at Berkeley and remains closely connected with PNC since it has moved to Academic Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. Among its members include the University of Hawaii, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, Australian National University.
ECAI
The Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative (ECAI) is a global consortium incorporating scholars in the humanities, social sciences and history; archivists, librarians and curators; members of non-governmental organizations, and information technology researchers. ECAI is based out of UC Berkeley.
